Popular food delivery apps in the US such as DoorDarsh, Uber Eats, and GrubHub do plenty of business everyday. These platforms dominate the US food delivery market, with DoorDash holding a 67% market share, followed by Uber Eats holding a 28% portion.
The average American population reportedly spends $37 each on food delivery every week, indicating a huge shift in people’s lifestyle and meal preferences.
Food delivery in the US grows at such a rapid rate that it becomes a staple in many Americans’ lives. This growth is not only fueled by Americans’ love for quick meals but also their need for convenience amidst their hectic and busy lives.

As food delivery becomes an integral part of people’s lives, people get heavily frustrated when food delivery apps suddenly become inaccessible. For example, a huge panic ocurred among American consumers sometime in 2023 when all of the delivery apps, specifically Uber Eats, GrubHub, and DoorDash, were all reportedly down at the same time. People deliberately posted their outcries on social media.
“HELP, DoorDash is down..I’m sick and so hungry.” A customer shared on X
It wasn’t clear why sometimes food delivery apps had an outage, especially at the same time, perhaps for maintenance or bug problems, but it was evident how much it could largely disrupt people’s routine. It also shows how much Americans are becoming too dependent on online food delivery service.
Americans are hungry for more: What are they ordering?
Comfort food appears to be the most-ordered food in the US. According to DoorDash’s 2024 report, fresh fries reigns supreme as the topmost food ordered by their consumers, followed by chicken quesadillas and mozzarella sticks.
For drinks, vodka wins followed by hard seltzer and tequila.
DoorDash also noted the difference between how each generation behaves when it comes to enjoying their takeout food, with more than half of them eating their food from the couch, while the rest prefer eating at the table and in their bed.
Many Americans are becoming too busy to cook or eat out, and thus they turn to food delivery services to save them from the hassle. There are plenty of food options for them too when they order food online compared to when they just stick to what is in the fridge.
With peoples’ schedules becoming even busier, people’s taste preferences ever evolving, and growing consumer base, delivery platforms are actively fortifying and scaling up their operations to meet their consumers’ needs and make their lives easier.
“To grow in the current environment, we have to continuously evolve to meet today’s consumer needs. We must listen to our customers, run each shift with a positive attitude, and do what we can to make our businesses a little bit better every day.”

Creating tastier experiences for consumers
People are craving for more tasty experiences, and so food delivery companies and restaurants are always formulating strategies and expanding their networks to give customers what they want. Just recently in April 2025, DoodDash announced its partnership with the world’s largest pizza company, Domino. Its nationwide US launch begins in May 2025, and will expand to Canada later in 2025. In addition to that, Schnucks also joins DoorDash marketplace for on-demand delivery of groceries and daily essentials.
Over the last few years, food delivery companies have not just been partnering with restaurants, but also with retailers, grocery stores, florists, and others to give a wide array of delivery options to their customers. It is also a great opportunity for business brands of all sizes to expand their digital offerings and reach more customers through their apps.
Surge of orders are to be expected, and it is important that delivery companies always maintain a smooth and efficient delivery experience not just for their consumers, but for their delivery couriers as well. And SpartanPac stands ready to help.
